Facility Operations/Security/Event Management: Security
Director of Events - SMG/INTRUST Bank Arena (WICHITA, KS)

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an opening for a Director of Event Services at INTRUST Bank Arena.  This position will lead the Event Services department, including internal 24-hour security, event manager/coordinator, sheriff’s officers; and guest experience manager.  Additionally, oversees the 3rd party subcontractors including t-shirt security, IATSE, show runners; and EMS while ensuring safety and security of facility on event days and non-event days. 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate training in venue with local emergency personnel.
  • Take on event management of events as needed.
  • Ensure successful event coordination activities by supervising and training Event staff.   Plan, organize and assign assignments for the Department personnel including Event Manager, Guest Experience Manager, and in-house security supervisors.
  • Be a resource for event coordination, services, and event staffing, Manager on Duty schedules, security, crowd and risk management, police, fire and safety personnel; and ADA compliance.
  • Prepare Event Services departmental and estimated revenues.
  • Prepare estimated department budget and contract labor involved with all events.
  • Coordinates with marketing department all media entry into the building before, during or immediately following events.
  • Maintain our brand image and generate positive public relations with guest and staff.
  • Negotiates sales and other services the facility may be able to provide for events.  Work closely with GM/AGM.
  • Develop operating procedures customized to the specific needs of the facility and consistent with the goals and objectives of the client, facility and SMG.
  • Manage, coach and counsel subordinate supervisors who oversee employees in various functions. 
  • Attend director meetings.  Conduct production meetings, weekly department meetings and event security meetings to discuss procedures, problems and changes.  Develop and maintain a harmonious working relationship with all facility departments. 
  • Guarnantee all codes, laws, ordiances, policies, procedures, risk management, safety precautions, rules, regulations and emergency procedures are followed.  Develop program to train all employees on fire/life safety and emergency procedures.
  • Implement procedures within the department to establish and maintain customer service standards that are designed to ensure a positive and professional image and generate repeat business.
  • Authorize the requisition of equipment and supplies within budget guidelines.
  • Assist in the preparation and negotiation of service agreements for event services security, event staffing and other agreements as needed.  Review contracts for compliance with event and/or government specifications and suitability for occupancy.
  • Act as liaison between tenants, facility contractors and county emergency personnel as needed.
  • Develop and implement emergency procedures, and safety and risk management policies.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of our internal employee training.
  • Responsible for organizing and leading self-promoted community events.
  • Lead STAR training, First Aide/CPR/AED training, and Crowd Management training.
  • Lead Active shooter, bomb threat and severe weather training along with table top discussions.
  • Lead venue security committee and participate in safety committee.
  • Schedule and coordinate K-9 units for bomb detection sweeps as requested.
  • Serve as facility liaison with all local emergency authorities.
  • Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises Event/ Security staff, contractors. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with SMG's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate knowledge in operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services and technical requirements for the types of events anticipated at the facility. 
  • Possess skills and experience in contract negotiations, business law, budget preparation, labor relations, purchasing procedures and supervising/training personnel.
  • Engage in much decision making that is generally governed by procedure and guided by policy.
  • Possess any licenses, certificates or training required by local, state or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility.
  • Operate equipment such as light trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts or other light power driven equipment.
  • Operate a personal computer using Windows, Microsoft Office software, event software and payroll software (E-Time).
  • Operate portable radio and standard office equipment including copier and fax machine.
  • Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form.
  • Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines. 
  • Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, patrons and others encountered in the course of employment.
  • Be licensed and insured to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
  • Must be able to pass a background and credit check.
  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.

Education and/or Experience  

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited four-year college or university.
  • Eight to ten years related experience and/or training in the public assembly industry or combination of education and experience.
  • Management experience, preferred, or supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with 24 hour in-house security, preferred

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and organizational ability. 
  • Ability to anticipate problems and implement immediate corrective action.
  • Considerable knowledge of safety regulations and other federal, state or local laws and regulations.
  • Strong orientation towards hospitality/customer service for entertainment industry.
  • Effective supervisory skills.  Ability to deal effectively with personnel problems; to deal constructively with conflict; to motivate, provide counsel and execute applicable solutions.
  • Experience with AutoCAD preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

 

Other Qualifications:  

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays in addition to normal business hours as needed.
  • Must have professional attitude and appearance.

Physical Demands:

This position requires sitting, keyboarding, walking, standing, stooping and may require lifting up to 55 lbs, substantial standing and walking.

Finance/Internal Audit: Payroll
Payroll and Payable Accountant - SMG/INTRUST Bank Arena (WICHITA, KS)

Summary:

Process multiple payrolls, bi-weekly through ADP.  Assist in the daily financial operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Process multiple SMG facility payrolls bi-weekly.
  • Process all wage garnishments, deductions, and payments for applicable employees, in a timely manner.
  • Calculate and process vacation, sick, and other time-off benefits each payroll.
  • Prepare payroll adjustments.
  • Prepare manual checks, maintain check log and post to ADP.
  • Prepare and update payroll journal entries.
  • Prepare accounts payable checks and match with corresponding invoice and purchase request forms.
  • Accurately input payable invoices into Sage 50 (Peachtree) daily.
  • Assist Accounting Manager in preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Perform bank reconciliation.
  • Monthly reconciliation of payable and payroll balance sheet accounts.
  • Custodian of petty cash.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to pass a background and credit check.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Thorough knowledge of payroll processing and ADP software.
  • Must be able to demonstrate generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Knowledge in Sage 50 (Peachtree) accounting software preferred.
  • Understanding of payroll taxes, laws, regulations and requirements.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment with many interruptions.
  • ADP experience is required.
  • Ability to meet specific deadlines and successfully work under pressure with close attention to detail and in an organized manner.
