Facility Operations/Security/Event Management: Conversion Crew
Operations Ice Technician & Supervisor - DCU Center (Worcester, MA)

Summary: SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities, has an excellent and immediate opening for a Full Time Operations Ice Technician & Supervisor for SMG/DCU Center. The Operations Ice Technician & Supervisor responsible for the daily activities required to run, maintain, and service the facility and the events by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisor: prepares and maintains facility ice floor for all hockey practices, hockey games and other ice events as needed and also for outside skating rink in downtown Worcester.  Supervisor must be capable of driving a Zamboni and also assists, supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in the Housekeeping & Changeover / Set Up departments.  Position also supervises and schedules all aspects of operations, interfacing with engineering, building and grounds, technical services, including ADA compliance, public safety and security.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversee installation of ice, which includes freezing floor; painting base color, lines and logos; and building up the ice sheet. Prepare ice for all practices, games and other ice events at DCU Center and the city’s outdoor skating rink on the Common. 
  • Duties include: removing debris, checking ice depth, scraping, edging, resurfacing ice and maintenance of spectator netting
  • Operate and maintain the ice re-surface and ice-edger equipment.  Repair and build ice. 
  • Primary contact with ECHL tenant
  • Oversee daily housekeeping/custodial, Set up, changeover, tear down employees and tasks assigned to completion
  • Must be familiar with techniques for repairing and building ice around hockey goals and other areas that lose ice
  • Maintain glass and dasher walls including quick changes to broken hockey shields, maintain ice and lay water as needed, monitor temperature and humidity levels
  • Prepare and cover ice for events that require a regular floor surface
  • Operate and control some equipment via computers
  • Oversee, assist and direct employees who assist with installation and maintenance of ice
  • Respond to visual and audible alarms from building automation and life safety systems
  • Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed

Supervisory Responsibilities    

Employee will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with SMG’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Scheduling of employees and payroll data input.

Qualifications

 Education and/or Experience        

  • A high school diploma or GED and at least one year ice floor and facilities operations experience a must
  • Maintain the proper operation of ice resurfacing and maintenance equipment, housekeeping equipment and change over equipment
  • Completion of accredited courses from an ice making technology school is considered a strong plus; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Current driver’s license is required

 Skills and Abilities

  •  Use and properly care for ice equipment, including ice resurfacing and ice-edger with multiple manual controls, gears and foot pedals
  • Ability to Properly Operate and Drive a Zamboni
  • Read and interpret documents, procedure manuals, floor plans, assignment sheets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions for all areas of the department
  • Possess any licenses, certificates or training required by company, local, state or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility in all areas of the department
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the practice and procedures related to all areas of custodial, event set up, tear down & change overs
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the practice and procedures related to ice installation, preparation and maintenance; typical methods and techniques for maintaining, repairing and building ice; and treatment of water and hydraulic equipment
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services, and technical requirements for all the types of events anticipated at the facility
  • Work independently, exercising judgment and initiative
  • Organize and prioritize to meet deadlines
  • Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results
  • Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form

Maintenance Technician - SMG - Stockton Complex (Stockton, CA)

Summary

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities, has an excellent and immediate opening for a Maintenance Technician for SMG/Stockton Arena, Stockton Ballpark, Bob Hope Theatre & Oak Park Ice Arena. This position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate, inspect, maintain, and repair building operating systems including boilers, chillers, air handlers, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing equipment.
  • Repair and maintain food service equipment including ovens, grills, dishwashers, deep fryers, and refrigeration units.
  • Obtain bids for additional maintenance and ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Review event documents for operational needs. Identify issues and recommend solutions.
  • Monitor repair activity to minimize downtime and inconvenience to facility event activity and tenants.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained according to factory specifications and maintain accurate records to that fact.
  • Assist in overseeing activities of construction projects, vendors, subcontractors, and city and county services.
  • Perform highly diversified duties to maintain and repair onsite equipment.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Plan and organize the purchase and issue of all materials, parts, and components required for work order completion.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material, and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
  • Keep records of Safety Data Sheets.
  • Operate equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, and miscellaneous hand and power tools.
  • Hire, supervise, train, and schedule part-time maintenance staff.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • A thorough knowledge of all Building systems: Electrical, Lighting, Plumbing, HVAC, Refrigeration, building and electrical codes, OSHA regulations and safe working techniques and procedures.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Good communication, organization, interpersonal, prioritizing, and time management skills.

Computer Skills

Basic computer experience (i.e. word processing, e-mail, etc.)

Other Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, stand, stoop, kneel, and climb on a regular basis.
  • Must be flexible with working extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. As well as be subject to calls 24 hours in case of emergency.
  • Be licensed to operate a motor vehicle.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates specialized audio, lighting, video and rigging equipment
  • Uses specialized programs and equipment in live productions
  • Setup and Strike of Events
  • Implements and ensures that all requirements listed in Technical Riders are met for each event

 QUALIFICATIONS:

Facility Operations/Security/Event Management: Security
Public Safety Supervisor - SMG/Greater Columbus Convention Center (Columbus, OH)

Participates in the day-to-day functions of securing, directing, and promoting security and public safety in the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Campus includes 4 Parking Areas, 2 food courts, 4 exhibit halls, 6 ballrooms, more than 50 meeting rooms within 2 million square feet of space. You will be called upon to greet Guests as they arrive, check bags and perform visual checks of guests, manage crowds, secure doors and monitor specific locations throughout the venue, and act as roving or posted security.  As the “eyes and ears” of the campus, you are expected to keep a close watch on the crowd and intervene in situations when appropriate and call for assistance when it is needed. You are required to oversee the daily Shift operations of the Public Safety Department. You will be tasked with supervising 3 or more Public Safety Officers/Public Safety Event Staff.  You are on the “front line” and will experience the excitement and energy each event. Assists in event related activity as required.

Essential Functions

  • Greet guests as they enter and leave the facilities

  • Answer questions; resolve complaints, and give directions

  • Enforce venue policies and procedures

  • Report suspicious activity and violations of campus policy

  • Respond to guest conflicts, medical situations, and other incidents

  • Provide crowd management and assist with crowd movement

  • Secure locations and prohibit access to unauthorized individuals

  • Challenge unauthorized personnel in restricted areas

  • Follow established code of conduct and safety procedures

  • Provide exceptional service to all patrons

  • Perform regular and routine security rounds of the campus; noting and correcting unsafe or insecure conditions, and takes further and immediate action to correct conditions as needed

  • Complete detailed reports on activity during shift

  • Complete Written Incident reports

  • Verify reports are completed

  • Input door schedule into magnetic door lock program

  • Direct visitors, deliveries and related personnel to proper areas, notifies related departments of visitor/delivery arrival/departure

  • Operate and monitor computerized fire alarm system and surveillance camera

  • Operate company vehicle to transports employees or patrons around campus

  • Take appropriate action in the event of an emergency

  • Maintain daily shift schedules and posts

  • Assign shift duties to Public Safety Officer/Public Safety Event Staff

  • Supervise Public Safety Officer and Public Safety Event Staff

  • Report incident to Public Safety Management for follow-up

  • Maintain a proactive and positive attitude

  • Attend campus meetings in the absence of Public Safety Management

Participates in the day-to-day functions of securing, directing, and promoting security and public safety in the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Responsible for collecting parking fees from patrons in the garage and or parking lots on GCCC property. Must be able to work Thursday – Sunday 1st, 2nd, & 3rd shifts available.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate verbally in English.

  • Verifies amount of payments received against amount of tickets issued or collected.

  • Receives payment for fees, from parking customers, verifies amount due, gives change if necessary; issues receipt and deposit payments received.

  • Accountable for discrepancies between cash collections and automatic counter readings, cash register readings, and/or other cash control procedures.

  • Keeps comprehensive, complete and neat reports of daily business related to parking customers.  Reports have to include; but should not be limited to: starting tickets, ending tickets, total tickets sold, tickets returned, amount per ticket, total amount collected, voids, refunds and no fees.

  • Write down complaints, and refer complainants and/or customers to the appropriate parking supervisor, i.e. daytime cashiers to daytime supervisor, evening cashier to evening supervisor.

  • Report all unusual situations, accidents, and suspicious people to the supervisor. Write down license number, make of car, and description of person causing any problems.

Position Summary:

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for a Changeover Laborer at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Changeover Laborer is responsible for participating in the day-to-day functions of the movement and placement of large quantities of facility equipment and furnishings including, but not limited to,  chairs, tables, stages, wall panels, dollies, etc. and other related equipment up to 50 lbs.  A degree of decision making is required involving the transport and setup/dismantle of equipment for safety and efficiency reasons.  Regular attendance in conformance with the policies established by SMG is essential to the successful performance of this position. This is a labor intensive position.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Review event documents/ task lists for area setups/dismantle and complete tasks as instructed.

  • Coordinate equipment movement in a safe, efficient manner.

  • Maintain inventory in proper storage areas.

  • Operate material handling equipment as necessary.

  • Maintain appropriate stock of supplies and equipment to perform assigned tasks.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Facility Engineer - SMG/Greater Columbus Convention Center (Columbus, OH)

SUMMARY

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for an Engineer/Facility Technician at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Engineer/Facility Technician is responsible for performing routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on SMG-GCCC managed buildings, mechanical equipment and utility systems. This position will also serve to assist the Operations Crew with set-up changes as needed.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Building Inspections and Preventive Maintenance:

  • Daily inspection of all aspects of the facility including operating systems to detect malfunction and/or needed repairs.
  • Complete routine preventive maintenance for sprinkler system, engine room, diesel generator, message boards, monitors, elevators, air-handling and HVAC systems and pumps.

 

Skilled and Semi-Skilled Maintenance and Repair:

  • Perform painting, flooring, carpentry, plumbing, masonry glass repair, roofing and construction as directed.
  • Provide ground maintenance to include snow removal, landscape duties, painting of parking areas, etc. to maintain aesthetic quality of the facility.
  • Provide telephone line installation, telephone maintenance/repair and trouble-shooting of telephone operating system.
  • Lubricate and clean machinery and mechanical systems.
  • Install and maintain electrical wiring equipment and fixtures.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers or other components.
  • General repairs to Food & Beverage equipment.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical gear, generators, distribution panels, motors, building systems, etc. up to 480V.
  • Knowledge and skill to work with electrical gear, generators, distribution panels, motors, building systems, etc. up to 480V.
  • Installation and removal of show sets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Administrative functions:

  • Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams.
  • Maintain written daily activity log.
  • Request, compare and advise most cost effective purchasing.
  • Initiate Purchase Requisitions.

  • Equipment operation to include forklift, aerial lift, snow removal equipment power tools and associated equipment.
  • On-Call status for building emergencies and inclement weather responsibilities.
  • Assist Operations Crew as directed.
  • Respond to promoter requests and event requirements.
  • Complies with all OSHA regulations.  Ensures facility is in compliance with same.
  • This position requires physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs, walking, standing or bending for extended periods of time.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and non-hazardous work environment.
  • Follow all lockout and tag out procedures.
  • Must have the ability to interact with guests in a friendly, courteous and polite manner. This will include initiating contact with guests within 10 feet – i.e. smiling, saying “Good Day” or offering assistance when needed.
  • Must feel comfortable when around large groups or speaking to a guest, as needed
  • Understands the importance of providing customer service and in understanding of “The Magic is in the Details”
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the ability to perform all essential duties and responsibilities in a satisfactory manner.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a reliable form of transportation. This position requires a High School Diploma or GED.

SKILLS:

  • Ability to work under deadlines dictated by event schedules and project timetables.
  • Skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair in carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, Mechanical and Electrical.

Operations Supervisor - SMG/University of Phoenix Stadium (Glendale, AZ)

POSITION:          Operations Supervisor

REPORTS TO:     Operations Manager

FLSA STATUS:    Salaried Exempt

Summary

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for an Operations Supervisor at The SMG-University of Phoenix Stadium. The Operations Supervisor is responsible for the day to day planning and executing of all conversions and housekeeping needs required, by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate leads.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Coordinate the housekeeping and conversions part-time employee work schedule
  • Monitor employee hours and notify Operations Manager of potential overtime implications
  • Conduct daily editing, data entry and routine maintenance of ABI applications
  • Supervise the work of other employees performing functions within the scheduling office
  • Supervise housekeeping and conversions staff to ensure duties are performed properly
  • Train and supervise part time and/or contract staff
  • Ensure employees have the equipment and resources to perform the job efficiently
  • Maintain employee paperwork including attendance, payroll, disciplinary procedures, etc.
  • Participate and assist Human Resources with job fairs, hiring sessions, orientations and trainings
  • Assist with various event related duties as needed
  • Must be able to work in a team environment cooperatively with others
  • Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent work and event schedules and produce accurate results
  • Be licensed and insured to operate a motor vehicle in the United States
  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur
  • Must always exhibit excellent customer service and management leadership demeanor and actions

Supervisory Responsibilities

Managing subordinate leads in any of the following departments: Changeover and Housekeeping departments.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience          

  • Bachelor's Degree from technical college with major in Sports Management preferred
  • 2-3 years sports/entertainment facility experience.
  • Additional experience may be substituted for education
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Highly developed verbal, written and e-mail communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented with ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Knowledge of employee scheduling strongly preferred
  • Ability to converse fluently in both English and Spanish preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred

Skills and Abilities     

  • Demonstrate knowledge in operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services and technical requirements for the types of events anticipated at the facility
  • Possess skills and experience in labor relations, purchasing procedures and supervising/training personnel
  • Meet the physical demands of this job, which include being able to get in and around the facility (requires personal mobility), lifting, carrying, moving, climbing, working from various heights, and moderate to loud noises
  • Operate equipment such as light trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, boom lifts or other light power driven equipment
  • Operate a personal computer using Windows and Microsoft Office software
  • Operate portable radio and standard office equipment including copier and fax machine.
  • Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with other in both oral and written form
  • Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, patrons and others encountered in the course of employment
  • Be licensed and insured to operate a motor vehicle in the United States
  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur
  • Other duties as assigned
