Facility Operations/Security/Event Management: Facility/Venue Management
Safety & Compliance Manager - SMG (Jacksonville, FL)

Summary

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities, has an excellent and immediate opening for the Safety & Compliance Manager for SMG/All Jacksonville Facilities. Responsible for the public and workers safety and regulatory compliance of the Operations staff in regards to the proper repair and upkeep of the Jacksonville facilities.  The Manager shall assist in the responsibility for insuring the facility remains in compliance with applicable safety and building codes at all times and shall implement programs by performing the necessary duties personally or through peer staff.  The manager shall be responsible for the proper recordkeeping of such items through the use of IMS and CMMS systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Oversee all aspects of SMG – Jacksonville’s safety committee including serving as Chairperson of Safety steering committee, regular review and updating of all safety plans and conducting regular site inspections for safety compliance.

  • Work with Human Resources to ensure proper incident reporting structure for injuries, damage and other required documentation.

  • Oversee all aspects of SMG Maintenance CMMS program, including converting maintenance requests to work orders with follow-up, building assets, uploading service tickets and tracking costs, and creating preventive maintenance plans for all life safety, mechanical systems, fleet vehicles, compliance inspections, etc.

  • Monitor, enhance, recommend, implement and maintain programs for inspection of facilities and documentation of work orders utilizing CMMS programs (SMG Maintenance) including comprehensive preventative maintenance system for all fixed and moveable assets.

  • Create and maintain physical and electronic ‘library’ of all inspection documentation.

  • Responsible for the overall Life Safety programs including fire alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, pre-engineered systems and associated equipment.

  • Assist with the compliance for emergency generators and the proper documentation of building systems relative to Life Safety.

  • Assist with ADA compliance.

  • Coordinate the periodic insurance carrier site visits and appropriate documentation and follow up.

  • Work closely and coordinate with other Managers in Operations Department to ensure that day-to-day needs of the facilities are properly managed through the work order system.

  • Assist with promoting, training and monitoring for compliance with corporate operational best practices.

  • Monitor all clock-ins/outs and assigned breaks of any subordinate personnel.  Prepare and review all necessary documentation for approval of time keeping system.

  • Conduct frequent facility inspections and note deficiencies and supervise necessary action plans for remediation.

  • Responsible for working in, monitoring and improving event communications centers and the appropriate documentation of post event reports and follow up.

  • Assist with the coordination with 24 hour security provider in regards to compliance with policies and the appropriate documentation.

  • Work with Human resources to ensure all required training is completed and documented accordingly

  • Assist with special projects at and around the facility and all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Education and/or Experience        

     

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and five (5) years related experience and/or training in the public assembly industry in an operations position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be proficient in MS Office.

  • Experience working with CMMS software preferred.

  • Experience working with unions and collective bargaining agreements preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills required.

  • Ability to operate effectively in a multi-demand environment is essential.

  • Strong customer service orientation is essential.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with strong time management skills

  • Ability to use common office equipment such as computers, copies, fax machines, scanners, etc.

     

    Working environment/conditions

     

  • Requires the ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays based on the event schedule.

  • May be exposed to a high noise level for extended periods of time, related to event type.

  • Ability to move quickly from one area to another.

  • Involves walking, standing, bending, stooping and climbing stairs.

  • Use hands to handle files, type and operate office machines.

  • Extensive communication via phone and/or email will be required at times.

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for Part Time Operations Staff at the Irving Convention Center. Under the direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor this position will perform various physical tasks to set-up and tear-down equipment and materials for arena and convention center events, as well as, clean and maintain the facility and provide other operational tasks as needed.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares facility for shows including chairs, stages, tables and other equipment as assigned.
  • Reads, understands event work orders.
  • Maintains a safe working environment.
  • Attends to and conforms to the policies established by SMG in the successful performance of this position.
  • Uses equipment as required upon completion of training in safe manner and as directed by operational standards i.e. forklifts, scrubbers, scissor lifts, boom lifts, etc.
  • Work on special projects as needed.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • This position has limited supervisory responsibilities for employees in the operations department.  Carries out any temporarily assigned supervisory responsibilities in accordance with SMG’s policies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Prior conversion and/or event experience in an arena, convention center or other similar public assembly facility is highly preferred.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work in a multi-tasking environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, alone, or with or without direct supervision.

  • Daily lifting up to 50 lbs. multiple times a day.
  • Eye-hand-foot coordination.
  • Hearing sufficient to clearly hear voices, alarms, bells and horns.
  • Must possess any licenses, certificates or training required by local, state or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility

Summary

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an immediate opening for Event Coordinator at SMG/John Paul Jones Arena. We are seeking an organized and highly motivated individual to serve as the primary point of contact for corporate, private, non-profit, consumer/trade shows, and various other public events. Coordinates events from initial inquiry through the planning stages, up to on-site management the day/night of the event.  Provides general support as needed for other events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

·         Serves as the liaison and client representative to provide planning, implementation and delivery of all assigned events at John Paul Jones Arena or other University of Virginia facilities as needed.

·         Creates and follows through on events from initial client meetings, preparation of client estimates and rental agreements through final billing. Oversees third-party vendors to ensure quality product and events for clients.

·         Coordinates event schedules with contracted security/staffing companies, provides guidance and supervision during events and follows up after all events to ensure proper billing.

·         Communicates all event requirements (staffing, set-up plans, etc.) to appropriate departments.

·         Sets expectations for guest services, building security, emergency preparation and crowd control procedures for assigned events; monitors compliance and responds to concerns as needed.

·         Creates and maintains event files; creates and distributes Event Data Sheets for all events.

·         Builds strong client relationships and updates guest history in order to meet their needs and encourage repeat business; works with the Sales & Marketing Team to generate new business revenue.

·         Conducts facility tours for prospective clients; assists with general tours as needed.

·         Provides general event support for public ticketed events as needed.

·         As scheduled, works flexible/varied hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.

·         Performs the physical duties of the job; walks/stands extensively, maneuvers to all areas of the facility, works inside/outside the building, use a two-way radio, and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with Rink Manager to develop special interest programming for public skate including games, activities, themed skates, etc.
  • Work with Rink Manager to oversee the Birthday Party Program
  • Coordinate the Learn to Skate Program including the following:
    • Maintain Standards of USFSA Basic Skills Program
    • Maintain Standard of Skills and Techniques for student testing
    • Growth and Development of the Learn to Skate Program
    • Assist with scheduling summer skate camps, schedule coaches for Learn to Skate Session

Summary

This position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate, inspect, maintain, and repair building operating systems including boilers, chillers, air handlers, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing equipment.
  • Repair and maintain food service equipment including ovens, grills, dishwashers, deep fryers, and refrigeration units.
  • Obtain bids for additional maintenance and ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Review event documents for operational needs. Identify issues and recommend solutions.
  • Monitor repair activity to minimize downtime and inconvenience to facility event activity and tenants.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained according to factory specifications and maintain accurate records to that fact.
  • Assist in overseeing activities of construction projects, vendors, subcontractors, and city and county services.
  • Perform highly diversified duties to maintain and repair onsite equipment.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Plan and organize the purchase and issue of all materials, parts, and components required for work order completion.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material, and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
  • Keep records of Safety Data Sheets.

Facility Operations/Security/Event Management: Event Guest Relations
Event Manager - SMG / Save Mart Center at Fresno State (Fresno, CA)

SMG / Save Mart Center at Fresno State has an immediate opening for a full-time Event Manager. 

POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, coordinates all event preparation and performance aspects related to the facility.  Acts as liaison between the facility and tenants ensuring all tenant requirements are met and facility rules, regulations and policies are adhered to. Responsible for the management of all patron services employees.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Communicate with tenants to obtain necessary technical requirements and other event related information.

·         Inspect buildings and specific meeting areas to evaluate suitability for occupancy, considering such factors as air circulation, lighting, location, room size, and event requirements.

·         Ensure that the equipment, physical set-up and personnel provided meet the requirements of the event and the tenant’s contractual agreement.

·         Develop assignment schedules for all staffing requirements for the proper presentation of event.

·         Hires, schedules, supervises and manages part-time front of house staffing including patrons services, event security, and medical staff.

·         Ensure all pertinent information is obtained, compiled in event files and distributed to proper entities.  This includes but is not limited to compiling, filing, and distributing medical service reports, incident reports, ejections, arrest, parking lists, staffing schedules, payroll and turnstile/stub reports.

·         Coordinate with the Box Office regarding technical and production requirements that impact sights lines and/or cause seating obstructions.

·         Oversee the participation of related departments, such as operations, police, traffic, for facility activities.

·         Manage the preparation for upcoming events.  Knowledge of methods in setting up/tearing down events, housekeeping/cleaning techniques of large public facilities, exhibiting and show utilities is useful.

·         Work irregular schedule to insure proper supervision of all events and activities scheduled in the facility, as required.

·         Compile hours for Stagehands, EMTs, Police Officers, or any other subordinate staff or contract staffing.

·         Disseminate event information to all departments via event outlines and weekly staff meetings.

·         All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Event Manager - SMG NRG Park (Houston, TX)

Summary

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for an Event Manager at NRG Park in Houston, Texas.  NRG Park is in the fast lane for opportunity and excitement.  We are a one of a kind premier facility with four major venues within one giant park.  NRG Center (one million+ sq. ft. Convention Center), NRG Stadium (home of the Houston Texans and The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo), NRG Astrodome (“The” Astrodome), and NRG Arena.    We are seeking a unique Event Manager to join our Event Services team.   The Event Manager, under general supervision, controls and monitors the customer contact aspect and front-of-house division of the facility.  Plans, monitors, directs, and manages the event coordination, security, crowd control, exhibitor services, outside contractor service functions, and enforces fire marshal regulations.  Acts as liaison between the facility and clients, ensuring all clients’ requirements are met and facility rules, regulations and policies are adhered to.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following: 

·         Plan, organize, and manage events at NRG Park.

·         Ensure successful event coordination activities by supervising and training Event Coordinators. 

·         Accurately prepare event estimates in conjunction with the contractual proposals set forth by the Sales Team. 

·         Staff and supervise emergency/medical personnel, crowd control, ushers/ticket takers, and Police Officers for events.

·         Research, review and recommend equipment, materials and supplies required in providing event services and planning.

·         During large tenant events on property, work with the Event Manager for that event to help coordinate all service needs associated with that event. 

·         Coordinate outside service needs with food and beverage contractor, decorators or other vendors.

·         Assist with special needs or requests for all front-of-house arrangements such as opening of house, late seating, clearing aisles, ADA accommodations, etc. 

·         Coordinate with the Marketing Department with regards to all media entry into the building before, during or immediately following events.

·         Coordinate with either 24 hour Security or Event Security to ensure proper filing of all personal injury and accident reports that may occur during events or daily operations. 

·         Properly execute in a timely fashion all back end paperwork related to the event, i.e. post event notes, settlements, photo uploads, etc. 

·         Maintain the proper image and generate positive public relations with artists, clients, exhibitors, patrons and staff.

·         Take direction and communicate with all users of the facility in an emergency situation.

·         May perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities    

·         Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with all policies and applicable laws.

·         Responsibilities include assisting in the training of Event Coordinators; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; reporting disciplinary problems directly to the Director with any contracted vendors; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

·         A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in event management or convention services in a hotel or multi-purpose public assembly facility is preferred. 

·         Knowledge of public assembly facility management, customer services practices and exhibitor services practices is a plus.

Computer Skills

·         Operate a personal computer using Outlook, Windows, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and other standard office equipment. 

·         Auto CAD and Adobe Illustrator is a plus.

·         Be licensed to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.

Participates in the day-to-day functions of securing, directing, and promoting security and public safety in the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Position Summary:

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for Parking Lane Ambassador at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Parking Lane Ambassador is responsible for participating in the day-to-day functions of receiving and having custody of limited amounts of cash and/or monetary substitutes. Responsible for collecting parking fees from patrons in the garage and or parking lots on GCCC property. Must be able to work Thursday – Sunday 1st, 2nd, & 3rd shifts available.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate verbally in English.

  • Verifies amount of payments received against amount of tickets issued or collected.

  • Receives payment for fees, from parking customers, verifies amount due, gives change if necessary; issues receipt and deposit payments received.

  • Accountable for discrepancies between cash collections and automatic counter readings, cash register readings, and/or other cash control procedures.

  • Keeps comprehensive, complete and neat reports of daily business related to parking customers.  Reports have to include; but should not be limited to: starting tickets, ending tickets, total tickets sold, tickets returned, amount per ticket, total amount collected, voids, refunds and no fees.

  • Write down complaints, and refer complainants and/or customers to the appropriate parking supervisor, i.e. daytime cashiers to daytime supervisor, evening cashier to evening supervisor.

  • Report all unusual situations, accidents, and suspicious people to the supervisor. Write down license number, make of car, and description of person causing any problems.

  • Responsible for keeping the work station area clean, neat, and uncluttered.

  • Maintains a neat and clean personal appearance.

Position Summary:

The Changeover Laborer is responsible for participating in the day-to-day functions of the movement and placement of large quantities of facility equipment and furnishings including, but not limited to,  chairs, tables, stages, wall panels, dollies, etc. and other related equipment up to 50 lbs.  A degree of decision making is required involving the transport and setup/dismantle of equipment for safety and efficiency reasons.  Regular attendance in conformance with the policies established by SMG is essential to the successful performance of this position. This is a labor intensive position.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Review event documents/ task lists for area setups/dismantle and complete tasks as instructed.

  • Coordinate equipment movement in a safe, efficient manner.

  • Maintain inventory in proper storage areas.

  • Operate material handling equipment as necessary.

  • Maintain appropriate stock of supplies and equipment to perform assigned tasks.

  • Cleanup spills, breakages, and debris in the facility as required.

  • Cleanup and restock bathroom facilities as required.

  • General janitorial functions such as, but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, scrubbing floors, stripping composite floors, extracting carpet, washing glass/windows/mirrored surfaces, washing walls, cleaning stainless steel, dusting, replenishing supplies, bailing cardboard, rubbish and debris removal.

  • Must have the ability to interact with guests in a friendly, courteous and polite manner. This will include initiating contact with guests within 10 feet – i.e. smiling, saying “Good Day” or offering assistance when needed.

  • Must feel comfortable when around large groups or speaking to a guest, as needed

  • Understands the importance of providing customer service and in understanding of “The Magic is in the Details”

  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Education and/or Experience:

    High school diploma or GED required.  One to two years of custodial/janitorial experience in hotels, hospitals, offices or event conversion experience relative to a commercial facility preferred.

     

    Skills and Abilities:

    Must have ability to become familiar with facility floor plan and acquainted with all sections of the facility.  Upon training, must possess ability to operate machinery used by department (such as scrubbers, trash compactor, cardboard baler, and vacuum cleaners and extractors).  This position requires the ability to communicate well with all individuals and work as a team player.

    Working Conditions:

    Exposure to adverse weather conditions and to various cleaning chemicals.  Must have the ability to work flexible/irregular hours.  Position requires extensive walking, heavy lifting, climbing, carrying, stooping, crawling, equipment operation both indoors and out, and the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Position Summary:

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for a Housekeeper at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Housekeeper is responsible for participating in the day-to-day functions of performing various physical tasks, as well as cleaning and maintaining the facility and provide housekeeping tasks as needed.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a safe and clean environment

  • Cleans restrooms, offices and public areas

  • Vacuuming ,sweeping , mopping

  • Shampooing carpets as assigned or needed

  • Dusting flat surfaces

  • Operates basic electrical cleaning equipment

Guest Services Ambassador - SMG/Greater Columbus Convention Center (Columbus, OH)

POSITION SUMMARY:

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for a Guest Services Ambassador at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Guest Services Ambassador is responsible for participating in the day-to-day functions of providing directions, building facilities information, and offer hospitality and tourist assistance.  Serve as an usher and ticket taker for special events.  Interact with clients, facility staff, in-house concessionaires, and related personnel. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Insure highest level of customer service.

  • Work in Guest Services Areas providing directions, building facilities information, and event information.

  • Provide information on local features such as shopping, dining, nightlife, sports, and tourism attractions.

  • Make dining and other reservations for guests.

  • Maintain the appearance of the Guest Services Areas and Restaurant Guide and its brochures, maps, magazines, menus, and other hospitality publications.

  • Notify respective personnel when Guest Services Areas literature needs replenished.

  • Serve as an usher, greeter, and/or ticket taker for special events.

  • Complete tasks including copying, faxing, and printing.

  • Operate scooter, wheelchair, and cart rental and luggage and bag check.

  • Use a two-way radio for communication with management, security, and staff.

  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, may be required to work varying schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate business and client needs in the facility

Experience:  A minimum of six months experience in customer service.  Previous cash handling experience preferred.  Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) preferred. 

Skills/Aptitudes: Must have a professional appearance and a passion for customer service.  Must possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.  Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.  Must have telephone etiquette.  Must have eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity.  Must be able to listen, hear, and respond to guest inquiries.  Ability to distinguish letters, numbers, symbols, and colors.  Must be able to work independently and maintain a positive attitude within a very busy environment.  This position requires the ability to interact with all types of people.  Must be able to get along with co-workers, customers, vendors, and visitors to the facility.  This position requires the ability to respond politely to all individuals and work well as a team player.

Position requires mobility.  Position requires prolonged periods of standing on feet, sitting, and walking.  Ability to go up and down stairs.  Occasional bending and stooping.  Frequent talking and hearing.  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Facility Operations/Security/Event Management: Engineering
Facility Engineer - SMG/Greater Columbus Convention Center (Columbus, OH)

SUMMARY

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for an Engineer/Facility Technician at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Engineer/Facility Technician is responsible for performing routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on SMG-GCCC managed buildings, mechanical equipment and utility systems. This position will also serve to assist the Operations Crew with set-up changes as needed.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Building Inspections and Preventive Maintenance:

  • Daily inspection of all aspects of the facility including operating systems to detect malfunction and/or needed repairs.
  • Complete routine preventive maintenance for sprinkler system, engine room, diesel generator, message boards, monitors, elevators, air-handling and HVAC systems and pumps.

 

Skilled and Semi-Skilled Maintenance and Repair:

  • Perform painting, flooring, carpentry, plumbing, masonry glass repair, roofing and construction as directed.
  • Provide ground maintenance to include snow removal, landscape duties, painting of parking areas, etc. to maintain aesthetic quality of the facility.
  • Provide telephone line installation, telephone maintenance/repair and trouble-shooting of telephone operating system.
  • Lubricate and clean machinery and mechanical systems.
  • Install and maintain electrical wiring equipment and fixtures.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers or other components.
  • General repairs to Food & Beverage equipment.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical gear, generators, distribution panels, motors, building systems, etc. up to 480V.
  • Knowledge and skill to work with electrical gear, generators, distribution panels, motors, building systems, etc. up to 480V.
  • Installation and removal of show sets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Administrative functions:

  • Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams.
  • Maintain written daily activity log.
  • Request, compare and advise most cost effective purchasing.
  • Initiate Purchase Requisitions.
  • Maintain sub-contractor and vendor records and other data as required to support and verify payments and documentation of work performed.
  • Maintain, monitor and adjust Building Management System.
  • Maintain strong working relationship with outside contractors and vendors.

 

Other:

  • Equipment operation to include forklift, aerial lift, snow removal equipment power tools and associated equipment.
  • On-Call status for building emergencies and inclement weather responsibilities.
  • Assist Operations Crew as directed.
  • Respond to promoter requests and event requirements.
  • Complies with all OSHA regulations.  Ensures facility is in compliance with same.
  • This position requires physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs, walking, standing or bending for extended periods of time.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and non-hazardous work environment.
  • Follow all lockout and tag out procedures.
  • Must have the ability to interact with guests in a friendly, courteous and polite manner. This will include initiating contact with guests within 10 feet – i.e. smiling, saying “Good Day” or offering assistance when needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

·       Meet and greet all guests entering U.S. Bank Stadium, check for valid tickets when necessary.

·       Be personal and pro-active in providing assistance to all guests with the highest level of customer service and hospitality.

·       Assist guests by providing accurate directions to seating sections and key attractions within U.S. Bank Stadium and surrounding areas i.e. Plazas, Park, Light Rail.

·       Establish and maintain cooperative relationship with those contacted in the course of work.

·       Receive and quickly act upon requests or complaints from guests; refer serious problems to supervisory staff.

·       Retain an extensive knowledge of U.S. Bank Stadium layout, seating Sections, key venue attractions, key venue personnel identity, and emergency activity procedures.

·       Enforce stadium and league rules, regulations and policies.

·       Provide immediate assistance to and emergency notification of guests in the event of an accident or injury.

·       In the event of an emergency, assist in evacuating U.S. Bank Stadium, while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor.

·       Monitor all public areas to maintain order and safety.

·       Perform daily safety and security checks within assigned area as well as throughout the stadium; report all substandard or inadequate findings to supervisory staff.

·       Cohesively work in conjunction with other departments, including Minneapolis Police Department, security, food service, box office, retail, parking, custodial/housekeeping, and maintenance.

·       Perform additional functions and activities as directed by the Manager, Guest Experience.
