Facility Manager - Morgan Park Sports Center (Chicago, IL)

POSITION:                Facility Manager – Full Time - Exempt

REPORTS TO:           Director of Facilities

Summary:  Responsible for the daily activities required to operate, maintain, and schedule the Morgan Park Sports Center by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors and/or subcontracted services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serving as the manager on duty, supervising all aspects of the facility, including scheduling staff, overseeing programming, and maintaining customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee scheduling and booking of the ice rink, gymnastics facility, and the party rooms.
  • Implement and regulate facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, including safety training for all staff.
  • Anticipate problems and appropriate solutions; investigates, analyzes and resolves facility problems and complaints.
  • Provide clear, concise, and timely communication of directives to all other departments.
  • Inform the Sr. Facility Manager on any needed repairs and maintenance of the facility.
  • Assure facility cleanliness & readiness as well as proper staffing levels for daily operations and for any special events.
  • Order facility supplies as needed.
  • Meets with client groups to plan and organize assigned events.
  • Solicits new business through telemarketing, social media, database & advertising campaigns
  • Attends appropriate planning, organization and other event and facility meetings in support of the facility management.
  • Develop new revenue sources for the facility that maximize the time and space of the venue.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Manages subordinate supervisors in any of the following; Gymnastics, Hockey, Figure Skating, Yoga/Fitness, Public Skating, and attendants.  Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with SMG’s polices.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to: interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; conducting performance reviews of staff members, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:  Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university with major in Sports Management, Maintenance Engineering, or Sales and Marketing preferred. Additional experience or military service may be substituted for education. Supervisory experience is required.

Skills/Aptitudes:  Qualified candidates must display professional appearance, work ethic, and possess strong customer service and organization skills.  Must have the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously. Good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills required. Qualified candidate must be able to interact with all levels of staff including management and effectively supervise staff. 

Computer Skills:  Knowledge of basic computer skills including but not limited to; Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point and use of the internet. 

Other Qualifications:  Ability to work with limited supervision and as a team member.  This position requires the ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays in addition to normal business hours, as necessitated.

General Manager, Stadiums/Arenas - SMG - American Bank Center (Corpus Christi, TX)

Summary

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities, has an excellent and immediate opening for the General Manager, Stadium/Arenas role for the American Bank Center, located in Corpus Christi, TX. This individual will be responsible for leadership of the overall daily management, operating and promotion of the facilities; including oversight of all operating departments including without limitation, marketing, sales, event booking, event services, finance, human resources, food and beverage, box office, advertising, security, purchasing, event production, plant operation and maintenance, parking and related operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains active contact and an effective working relationship with the Client/Contract Administrator, professional sports tenants, government departments and agencies, live entertainment industry representatives, rights holders, event organizers, national governing bodies of sport,  community and civic organizations, as well as, union representatives (where applicable) to encourage continual and regular use of the facilities.
  • Monitors compliance with all provisions of SMG’s management services contract and develops and implements facility goals in accordance with the contract, the Client’s objectives, corporate policy, and good business practice.
  • Prepares and maintains required and necessary reports/records for the Client/Contract Administrator and for the Corporate Office.
  • Directs the development, administration and execution of all financial and operating reports including: preliminary budget, capital expenses, operating revenue, expense budgets, etc.
  • Ensures that the facility materials, equipment and supplies are inventoried; additionally approves the purchase of facilities supplies, materials, and athletic equipment as needed.
  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and directs all activities and personnel engaged in maintaining and operating the facility, as well as, direction and oversight of the day-to-day operations and the booking and promotion of events.
  • Negotiates and provides final approval on all contractual agreements with vendors, and use agreements with event organizers, hosts, managers and producers.
  • Required to solicit and book live music events through building positive relationships with agents, promoter and artist management.
  • Negotiates and secures commercial rights sponsorships such as, naming rights, product, service and serving rights agreements, as well as fixed-panel, electronic and digital advertising.  
  • Negotiates professional sports tenant agreements related to the use of the facility.
  • Implements security and operational best practices for stadiums and arenas, following guidelines set by the major professional sports leagues, and other national governing bodies.
  • Assures the coordination, implementation and administration of specific plans and programs prescribed by corporate directives, to include: maintain high-standards for guest services, employee training and development, quality assurance, energy efficiency, safety/emergency procedures, crowd control and crisis management procedures, or other areas as required.
  • Oversees the development of the annual business plan, including; event calendar, activity schedules, sales and marketing activities and goals, service objectives and projections for attendance and/or revenue.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with senior staff, as well as regular meetings with contract administrator, municipal leaders, marketing/alliance partners, budgeting and staff meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

This individual must be a well-established leader and professional with a minimum of 5-7 years of industry experience in a senior management level position within a Stadium or Arena.  They must have a proven track record of managing and leading large scale facility operations with a diverse workforce.  Must have significant experience in the following areas:  contract negotiations (particularly professional sports teams), supervising personnel, live entertainment booking, event promoting and supervising live entertainment productions, business law, purchasing procedures, plus labor relations and union contracts (if applicable).  The incumbent must be able to perform effectively under significant pressure typically associated with meeting the demands and timetables of the industry.  Must demonstrate business acumen with a client/customer service focus, and ability to communicate effectively in both written and public speaking forums. Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a four-year accredited college or university with major course work in business or public administration or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Status and Scope

Reports to the Regional Vice President. Directly supervises all the senior staff at the location. The individual must establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Client/Contract Administrator, tenants, government departments and agencies, sports and entertainment industry, community and civic organizations, as well as, union representatives (where applicable)  to encourage continual and regular use of the facility.

Operations Staff P/T - SMG - Irving Convention Center (Irving, TX)

POSITION:                Operations Staff

DEPARTMENT:      Operations

REPORTS TO:           Operations Supervisor

FLSA STATUS:          Hourly/ Non Exempt

 

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for Part Time Operations Staff at the Irving Convention Center. Under the direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor this position will perform various physical tasks to set-up and tear-down equipment and materials for arena and convention center events, as well as, clean and maintain the facility and provide other operational tasks as needed.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares facility for shows including chairs, stages, tables and other equipment as assigned.
  • Reads, understands event work orders.
  • Maintains a safe working environment.
  • Attends to and conforms to the policies established by SMG in the successful performance of this position.
  • Uses equipment as required upon completion of training in safe manner and as directed by operational standards i.e. forklifts, scrubbers, scissor lifts, boom lifts, etc.
  • Work on special projects as needed.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • This position has limited supervisory responsibilities for employees in the operations department.  Carries out any temporarily assigned supervisory responsibilities in accordance with SMG’s policies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Prior conversion and/or event experience in an arena, convention center or other similar public assembly facility is highly preferred.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work in a multi-tasking environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, alone, or with or without direct supervision.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess the ability to follow written and or verbal instruction.
  • Minimal proficiency computer skills including the ability to operate standard office equipment such as computers, fax machines, phone, etc.

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be physically able to bend, stoop, walk up stairs and work from lifts, ladders for extended periods of time as needed.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Moderate to extreme exposure to noise during events.
  • Daily lifting up to 50 lbs. multiple times a day.
  • Eye-hand-foot coordination.
  • Hearing sufficient to clearly hear voices, alarms, bells and horns.
  • Must possess any licenses, certificates or training required by local, state or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility

 HOURS OF WORK AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Travel negligible

SAVOR has an exciting opening for a Food Service General Manager at McCaw Hall in Seattle, Washington!

The ideal General Manager at this prestigious downtown Seattle cultural destination will have prior experience successfully managing a cultural destination with at least $4M volume in annual F&B sales. The General Manager (GM) will need to be willing to embrace a team-based culture that values partnership, collaboration and innovation. The ideal candidate will have experience managing multiple retail food outlets, a fine dining restaurant, and very high end, high volume special events. The GM has full financial responsibility for managing the budget, staffing & client relations. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with the sales team to drive special events sales, overseeing unit operating standards, providing a high level of guest service, managing client relations, building a strong team and successful P&L.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Markets Food and Beverage services to clients and establishes Food and Beverage controls
  • Directs and administers the execution of operating and marketing financial plans and documents; to include, operating revenue and expense budgets; capital expense plans and budgets
  • Evaluates facility practices and recommends improvements to better reflect the needs of the Client and the facility and/or to improve the efficiency and safety of operations, in compliance with organization
  • Oversees the development of work plans, show floor set-ups, assigns appropriate duties to subordinates; makes hiring decisions
  • Oversees Food & Beverage operations during events to ensure client satisfaction and quality control standards
  • Analyzes information concerning facility operations such as daily food sales, patron attendance, and labor costs to prepare budget and to maintain cost control of facility operations
  • Inspects food service facilities to ensure equipment and building meet state, local health laws and internal regulations
  • Maintains cost and quality control standards and reviews inventory controls with Food and Beverage Director
  • Inspects and samples prepared foods to maintain quality standards and sanitation regulations
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Creates Food and Beverage sales projections and budgets for facility events
  • Develops event work plans including scheduling and ordering, and assigns appropriate duties to subordinates
  • Reviews food and beverage lists submitted by each facility manager to determine that sufficient items are ordered weekly
  • Maintain relationships with the all internal departments, facility departments as well as other facility stakeholders
  • Participate in community functions, civic and social events
  • Analyze and review customer service surveys

Supervisory Responsibilities    

Manages subordinate Catering, Concessions, Restaurant and Chef/Kitchen supervisors. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of any of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with SMG's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Summary

Under general supervision, conversion crew members perform work as needed to maintain and prepare for events at the facility. Duties include skilled and semi-skilled tasks, which often require heavy lifting and a high degree of physical exertion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in all aspects of the conversion process in preparation for events to ensure completion in a safe and timely manner.
  • Assemble and breakdown hockey dashers and glass, team benches and boxes, stages, tables, seating risers, chairs, and other equipment.
  • Perform various duties to ensure the day-to-day operations of the facility are met.
  • Light cleaning and custodial duties as assigned when necessary.
  • Report irregularities, discrepancies, damage, loss of property, and safety concerns promptly to supervisor.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons, and all others encountered in the course of employment.
  • Follow all policies/procedures, risk management, safety precautions, rules, regulations and emergency procedures established at the facility.

Responsible for greeting and seating guests, verifies tickets, and assists the public by providing general information. Directing groups of people in genuinely, friendly and professional manner by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Verifies ticket location, event dates and times.
  • Seats guests in proper location.
  • Resolves any seating problems.
  • Provides emergency/accident assistance, when needed.
  • Provides primary face-to-face contact with guests.
  • Helps to resolve ticketing or seating problems or complaints that occur.
  • Acts as an Usher, Tour Guide, Ticket Taker, Concierge, or in any other related area when assigned.
  • Maintains a professional image and generate positive public relations.
  • Stands or sits alertly at established points of entry at all times and actively assists guests.
  • Maintains flow of foot traffic and directs guests to seating locations, restrooms, concession stands and etc.
  • Insures all items found on the premises are turned in to a Guest Relations Office as soon as possible.
  • Maintains proper care of uniform and any equipment or supplies issued. Returns equipment and unused supplies at the end of his/her shift.
  • Assists and supports the work of other Guest Relations Staff, as needed.

We are seeking a unique Maintenance Mechanic II to join our Engineering team. The Maintenance Mechanic II, under general supervision, performs work as needed to maintain and repair facility mechanical, electrical and plumbing operating systems.  Performs skilled technical work in the maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, controls, distribution systems and electrical systems. This position serves as back up by providing guidance to Maintenance Mechanic I and Apprentice, delegating assignments and ordering supplies, where necessary. Acts as liaison between the facility and clients, ensuring all clients’ requirements are met and facility rules, regulations and policies are adhered to.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Include the following:

    ·         Maintain, troubleshoot and repair all mechanical, refrigeration and chilled water equipment and systems owned or operated by the NRG Park.  Equipment includes but is not limited vent hoods, water treatment equipment, HVAC, chilled water systems, air handler units, and refrigerant reclamation.

    ·         Perform coil cleaning and preventative maintenance on all types of equipment and may repair related mechanical systems; domestic hot and cold water systems and related equipment; sanitary pumps, tanks, fittings and valves; surge (fire) supply tanks, plumbing supplies and hoses.

    ·         Perform minor structural and mechanical tasks, limited, electrical maintenance and other duties as needed.

    Position Summary:

The Parking Lane Ambassador is responsible for participating in the day-to-day functions of receiving and having custody of limited amounts of cash and/or monetary substitutes. Responsible for collecting parking fees from patrons in the garage and or parking lots on GCCC property. Must be able to work Thursday – Sunday 1st, 2nd, & 3rd shifts available.

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Must be able to read, write and communicate verbally in English.

    • Verifies amount of payments received against amount of tickets issued or collected.

    • Receives payment for fees, from parking customers, verifies amount due, gives change if necessary; issues receipt and deposit payments received.

    • Accountable for discrepancies between cash collections and automatic counter readings, cash register readings, and/or other cash control procedures.

    • Keeps comprehensive, complete and neat reports of daily business related to parking customers.  Reports have to include; but should not be limited to: starting tickets, ending tickets, total tickets sold, tickets returned, amount per ticket, total amount collected, voids, refunds and no fees.

    • Write down complaints, and refer complainants and/or customers to the appropriate parking supervisor, i.e. daytime cashiers to daytime supervisor, evening cashier to evening supervisor.

    • Report all unusual situations, accidents, and suspicious people to the supervisor. Write down license number, make of car, and description of person causing any problems.

    • Responsible for keeping the work station area clean, neat, and uncluttered.

    • Maintains a neat and clean personal appearance.

    • Answer inquiries or provides information to parking patrons on GCCC property about campus activities or locations.

    Position Summary:

    SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for a Changeover Laborer at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Changeover Laborer is responsible for participating in the day-to-day functions of the movement and placement of large quantities of facility equipment and furnishings including, but not limited to,  chairs, tables, stages, wall panels, dollies, etc. and other related equipment up to 50 lbs.  A degree of decision making is required involving the transport and setup/dismantle of equipment for safety and efficiency reasons.  Regular attendance in conformance with the policies established by SMG is essential to the successful performance of this position. This is a labor intensive position.

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Review event documents/ task lists for area setups/dismantle and complete tasks as instructed.

    • Coordinate equipment movement in a safe, efficient manner.

    • Maintain inventory in proper storage areas.

    • Operate material handling equipment as necessary.

    • Maintain appropriate stock of supplies and equipment to perform assigned tasks.

    SUMMARY

The Engineer/Facility Technician is responsible for performing routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on SMG-GCCC managed buildings, mechanical equipment and utility systems.     MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

     

    Building Inspections and Preventive Maintenance:

    • Daily inspection of all aspects of the facility including operating systems to detect malfunction and/or needed repairs.
    • Complete routine preventive maintenance for sprinkler system, engine room, diesel generator, message boards, monitors, elevators, air-handling and HVAC systems and pumps.

     

    Skilled and Semi-Skilled Maintenance and Repair:

    • Perform painting, flooring, carpentry, plumbing, masonry glass repair, roofing and construction as directed.
    • Provide ground maintenance to include snow removal, landscape duties, painting of parking areas, etc. to maintain aesthetic quality of the facility.
    • Provide telephone line installation, telephone maintenance/repair and trouble-shooting of telephone operating system.
    • Lubricate and clean machinery and mechanical systems.
    • Install and maintain electrical wiring equipment and fixtures.
    • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers or other components.
    • General repairs to Food & Beverage equipment.
    • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical gear, generators, distribution panels, motors, building systems, etc. up to 480V.
    • Knowledge and skill to work with electrical gear, generators, distribution panels, motors, building systems, etc. up to 480V.
    • Installation and removal of show sets.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Administrative functions:

    • Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams.
    • Maintain written daily activity log.
    • Request, compare and advise most cost effective purchasing.
    • Initiate Purchase Requisitions.
    • Maintain sub-contractor and vendor records and other data as required to support and verify payments and documentation of work performed.

    Director of Events - SMG/INTRUST Bank Arena (WICHITA, KS)

    SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an opening for a Director of Event Services at INTRUST Bank Arena.  This position will lead the Event Services department, including internal 24-hour security, event manager/coordinator, sheriff’s officers; and guest experience manager.  Additionally, oversees the 3rd party subcontractors including t-shirt security, IATSE, show runners; and EMS while ensuring safety and security of facility on event days and non-event days. 

    Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate training in venue with local emergency personnel.
    • Take on event management of events as needed.
    • Ensure successful event coordination activities by supervising and training Event staff.   Plan, organize and assign assignments for the Department personnel including Event Manager, Guest Experience Manager, and in-house security supervisors.
    • Be a resource for event coordination, services, and event staffing, Manager on Duty schedules, security, crowd and risk management, police, fire and safety personnel; and ADA compliance.
    • Prepare Event Services departmental and estimated revenues.
    • Prepare estimated department budget and contract labor involved with all events.
    • Coordinates with marketing department all media entry into the building before, during or immediately following events.
    • Maintain our brand image and generate positive public relations with guest and staff.
    • Negotiates sales and other services the facility may be able to provide for events.  Work closely with GM/AGM.
    • Develop operating procedures customized to the specific needs of the facility and consistent with the goals and objectives of the client, facility and SMG.
    • Manage, coach and counsel subordinate supervisors who oversee employees in various functions. 
    • Attend director meetings.  Conduct production meetings, weekly department meetings and event security meetings to discuss procedures, problems and changes.  Develop and maintain a harmonious working relationship with all facility departments. 
    • Guarnantee all codes, laws, ordiances, policies, procedures, risk management, safety precautions, rules, regulations and emergency procedures are followed.  Develop program to train all employees on fire/life safety and emergency procedures.
    • Implement procedures within the department to establish and maintain customer service standards that are designed to ensure a positive and professional image and generate repeat business.
    • Authorize the requisition of equipment and supplies within budget guidelines.
    • Assist in the preparation and negotiation of service agreements for event services security, event staffing and other agreements as needed.  Review contracts for compliance with event and/or government specifications and suitability for occupancy.
    • Act as liaison between tenants, facility contractors and county emergency personnel as needed.
    • Develop and implement emergency procedures, and safety and risk management policies.
    • Assist in the preparation and implementation of our internal employee training.
    • Responsible for organizing and leading self-promoted community events.
    • Lead STAR training, First Aide/CPR/AED training, and Crowd Management training.
    • Lead Active shooter, bomb threat and severe weather training along with table top discussions.
    • Lead venue security committee and participate in safety committee.
    • Schedule and coordinate K-9 units for bomb detection sweeps as requested.
    • Serve as facility liaison with all local emergency authorities.
    • Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Directly supervises Event/ Security staff, contractors. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with SMG's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Qualifications:

    • Demonstrate knowledge in operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services and technical requirements for the types of events anticipated at the facility. 
    • Possess skills and experience in contract negotiations, business law, budget preparation, labor relations, purchasing procedures and supervising/training personnel.

    • Possess any licenses, certificates or training required by local, state or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility.

    • Provide information and coordinate support staffing including operations, audio/visual, telecommunications, conversions, housekeeping, engineering, security, police & EMS, catering, box office and guest services personnel
    • Prepare drawing, layout, diagrams, instructions, set-up requirements and supporting documentation for each event and distribute to appropriate staff, communicating changes prior to event.
    • Present event previews/reviews in weekly interdepartmental event planning meetings
    • Submit relevant floor plans and stamped drawings to the fire marshal’s office for events and serve as the liaison for the client.
    • Inspect facilities to ensure they are being maintained properly for events and ensure compliance with applicable fire, building and safety codes
    • Oversee the computing of costs for billing of services and equipment rental charges
    • Review and approve final billing to facility users prior to release of invoice
    • Assist Sales Department in preparation of written cost estimates
    • Interpret and apply all relevant federal, state and local regulations
    • Routinely serve as Manager on Duty for any events assigned, serving as a facility representative

    Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience          

    • 2-3 years of experience in Guest Services or customer services relations preferred. Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred.
    • Additional experience may be substituted for education
    • Highly developed verbal, written and e-mail communication skills
    • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented with ability to handle multiple assignments
    • Knowledge of employee scheduling strongly preferred
    • Supervisory experience preferred

    Skills and Abilities     

    • Operate a personal computer using Windows and Microsoft Office software
    • Operate portable radio and standard office equipment including copier and fax machine.
    • Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with other in both oral and written form
    • Ability to train, oversee and direct staff in guest services and relations
    • Capable of working nights, weekends, holidays, and extra hours as needed
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time, meet deadlines and function well under pressure
    • Desire to deliver exceptional customer service to a varied group of users
    • Work effectively under pressure
    • Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, patrons and others encountered in the course of employment
    • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur
    • Ability to converse fluently in both English and Spanish preferred
